Based out of State College, PA, this is a high energy 4 piece pop punk/alt rock cover band delivering big sounds with huge songs. It’s kind of like that teen movie from the early 2000s where the soundtrack is Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 and Good Charlotte. If it had energy and was on the radio anywhere between the 90’s and 2000’s they probably play it.

The Mountain Laurel Garden Club is hosting a native plant sale on Saturday, August 3, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, at Sang Run State Park, 3735 Sang Run Rd., McHenry. There are 23 species of native plants, with a total of over 750 plants for sale. Notable plants include Sweet Black-eyed Susan (taller and bushier than traditional Black-eyed Susan with hundreds of blooms for weeks), two varieties of Aster and Joe Pye Weed, Bee Balm, Cardinal Flower, Great Blue Lobelia, Boneset, Coreopsis, and three varieties of native Milkweed. The sale also includes two plants that deer do not like: Mountain Mint and Eastern Bluestar. The club recommends planting the native plants in groups of three or five for the best show of blooms to attract pollinators. Proceeds from the plant sale will be used by MLGC for the continued beautification of our communities and to encourage gardening and sound conservation practices through club activities and programs, including educational programs at Sang Run State Park. The club offers an annual $1000 scholarship through the Garrett College Foundation and partners with local organizations in support of youth environmental education and civic beautification.

Music at Penn Alps is pleased to present the Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet. The concert will be at the handicap-accessible Village Chapel in the Spruce Forest Village in Grantsville, MD, on August 3 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available for $20 at the door, in the gift shop at Penn Alps Restaurant, or online at https://www.musicatpennalps.org/tickets. The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet may be history’s most ambitious cover band. Four women wielding bassoons (with help from some kazoos, a melodica, and whatever else they found nearby), aim to explore the creative frontier and share smiles along the way. By blending varied musical genres and performance styles with pop culture, the quartet demonstrates that music and laughter are universal languages. The group -- consisting of Brittany Harrington-Smith, Yuki Katayama, Nellie Sommer, and Lauren Yu Ziemba -- was formed in 2008 as students at the Eastman School of Music (USA). After a YouTube video of their Lady Gaga Saga went viral in 2011, they developed a global fan base. They have since performed as soloists with the Yale Concert Band, West Point Band, Southern Methodist University Wind Ensemble, and Eastman Wind Ensemble (among others), and have been invited artists of the International Double […]

Join Oakland Library for its book club geared towards readers of fantasy, sci-fi, and adventure! The discussion this month will be on The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Oakland Library from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Please register at the Oakland Library or contact Andrew Miller at andrew@relib.net for more information. The times and species have been changing at a rapid rate, and the social compact is wearing as thin as environmental stability. Adam One, the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners—a religion devoted to the melding of science and religion, as well as the preservation of all plant and animal life—has long predicted a natural disaster that will alter Earth as we know it. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life. Two women have survived: Ren, a young trapeze dancer locked inside the high-end sex club Scales and Tails, and Toby, a God's Gardener barricaded inside a luxurious spa where many of the treatments are edible. Have others survived? Ren's bioartist friend Amanda? Zeb, her eco-fighter stepfather? Her onetime lover, Jimmy? Or the murderous Painballers, survivors of the mutual-elimination Painball prison? Not to mention the shadowy, corrupt policing force of […]
Join DCAB for a FREE Intermediate Group MTB Ride!Every other Monday this summer! Meet at 6:00 PM at the upper lot (by the pool), wheels down at 6:15 PM. Return (one lap) by 7:30 PM. PLEASE SIGN UP AND SIGN THE WAIVER IN ADVANCE!https://x.gldn.io/e/iJLbqIfUGKb We will ride the awesome Dan's Mountain Lonconia loop at a casual / moderate pace. The ride is for intermediate‐level riders looking to apply and improve their skills in a non‐competitive atmosphere. We will ride about 5 miles of intermediate-level terrain (about one loop), with some uphills and fun downhill-flowy sections. Then, depending on the group's appetite, we can go for another lap. There will be obstacles that require the rider to get their front wheel off the ground to clear successfully. Basic mountain biking skills are required. Short, steep climbs and descents may be encountered. More fit entry-level riders can successfully ride this intermediate trail. While still “casual” in nature, this pace will have fewer stops than a beginner ride along the way. Riders with average fitness should do fine on this level of ride. Questions on MTB skills are encouraged, and the intention is to have fun and gain confidence on the trails. You […]
