Please follow these collection guidelines: Place all leaves at the edge of your property along the roadway in a pile, not a row. Ensure piles are free of sticks, branches, flowers, and other debris. Note that collection dates are weather permitting. Help keep Friendsville clean and beautiful this autumn!

The Garrett County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The Board will meet at the Dennett Road Education Complex in the Community Room. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed for public review. Public comment for the October 13, 2026, Board Meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m., after which time the Board will go into executive session in the Instructional Directors’ Conference Room until 5:30 p.m. to discuss personnel matters and a negotiations topic. The Board of Education will reconvene for the public session from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the community room. The Judy Center Early Learning Hub and community partners invite families to the Southern End School Readiness Boo Bash, a Halloween celebration for families with children from birth through kindergarten who live in the Broad Ford, Crellin, Swan Meadow and Yough Glades school districts.The Boo Bash runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Garrett County Fairgrounds Ag Hall. A sensory-friendly hour for children with special needs comes first, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.The event is supported by the Maryland State Department of Education's Division of Early Childhood through the Judy Center Early Learning Hub Grant, with Garrett County Community Action as a partner.

Occurring on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Friendsville branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide a referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information, or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing.
