The ice rink is located in Grantsville Town Park near the Ruth Enlow Library. All sessions are limited on the number of participants so JTF1 encourages you to buy your admissions in advance but drop-ins are also welcome. Public skates are limited to scheduled times. Please see the schedule below to plan your visit. Follow us on Facebook (JTF1 or jointtrainingfacility1) to get the most up-to-date schedule. RENTALS The Ice Rink has skates for all sizes, helmets, and skate aids for rent. Skates are $2, helmets are $1, and skate aids are $2. Skate aids are only available for children under 48 inches in height. You can bring your own bike helmet. Helmets are not required but encouraged, especially for beginners. Additionally, if you are renting skates, you are required to wear socks. Please wear full-length socks - footies, ankle socks, etc. are not appropriate to protect your skin in skates. Join Deep Creek Watershed Foundation for a virtual Brunch and Learn session, facilitated by University of Maryland Extension in Garrett County on December 14 at 10:00 AM. Bruce Michael, Deep Creek Lake & Watershed Coordinator for Garrett County will provide a brief update on the Arrowhead Cove Sediment Removal Project. The presentation will cover a summary of the dredging project, why Arrowhead Cove was selected, and slides of existing project site preparation, installation of the cofferdam to hold back lake water from the cove, and the construction of temporary roads/matts for equipment access. Our primary goal is to cultivate a love for reading among children while also providing much-needed socialization for our adoptable animals. They have an array of new books, delicious dog treats, and cozy cushions ready for you. Join them every Thursday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Enzo's Library, conveniently located in our lobby. Bring your young ones, select books from our collection, and enjoy reading to our adorable dogs and cats. Best of all, you can take the books home with you! The Opening day for the 2023-24 Ski Season is Friday, December 15th! Maryland’s only ski resort opens with skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing! Our Snowmaking Team was well prepared for the cold snaps that presented us with solid periods for good snow production. Even though we had some mild weather and precipitation this month, the additional natural snow of the 11.5″ season to date has helped to establish a solid base and create excitement within our staff, community, and patrons. Wisp plans to open with seven trails and a terrain park including Squirrel Cage, Sunset Blvd., Happy Camper, Possum, Grouse Way, Boulder Run, and Central Park Terrain Park. Opening weekend hours: Friday, December 15 with skiing and snowboarding from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM, in addition to Snow Tubing from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The Garrett County Health Department is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, December 15, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM at the Health Department’s office at 1025 Memorial Drive in Oakland. “Giving blood is a meaningful way to show up for your community and make wishes come true this holiday season,” A Red Cross spokesperson said. “Schedule your blood, platelet, or plasma donation appointment today.” Donors are urged to schedule an appointment now by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-733-2767, or calling Sandy at the health department at 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111. Participants who give blood from December 1-17 will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card by email. To donate blood, a person must be healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old, (or 16 years old with a parental consent form), and have not donated blood in the last 56 days. On the day of their appointment, donors can save up to 15 minutes at the blood drive by completing a RapidPass®, meaning they do the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online from a mobile device or computer. Saints Alive Christmas Luncheon

The Saints Alive Group Christmas Luncheon will be held Friday, December 15, at 12:30 PM at the home of Barbara and Gary Myers in McHenry and catered by Goehringer’s Catering.
