This effort directly supports Goal 9 of the Deep Creek Watershed Management Plan, which seeks to “protect the watershed from the adverse effects of impaired septic systems and ensure adequate capacity and management of public sewerage systems.” DCWF is currently working on several projects designed to encourage proper stewardship and maintenance of onsite septic systems to help preserve and protect water quality in the Deep Creek Lake watershed. As part of this initiative, DCWF is partnering with University of Maryland Extension to host a two-part virtual “Brunch & Learn” educational series focused on septic stewardship in Garrett County. The second session in the series will be held on July 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. EDT and will feature two guest speakers.
