A Non-Competitive Walk/5k to Raise Money for Cindy’s Fund Cost: Walk or 5k $30.00 (T-shirt included) | Toddlers in Strollers Free (no T-Shirt) Sunday, May 17, 2026 | Mountain Fresh Farmers Market Pavilion, South 1st Street, Oakland, MD 21550 Registration/Check-In: 5k 11:30 a.m. Walk Noon to 1:00 p.m. | Start Times: 5k 12:00 p.m., Walks 1:00/1:10/1:20 p.m. Course: Participants may check in at the town pavilion beginning at 11:30 a.m. for the 5k, or noon for the walk. The walk will be in three stages to accommodate any fitness level. Trails will be mostly paved; however, some areas may have gravel or wood paths. Due to safety concerns, the walks will not include the climb to the cross and flag. Food will be available for purchase before and after the walk. ALL proceeds go to Cindy’s Fund through the event, so come hungry! Sorry, no pets are allowed. BRING YOUR LAWN CHAIRS if you’d like to sit before/after the walk, as seating is limited. Occurring on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Grantsville branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance, and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide a referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information, or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing. Young Readers' Book Club is a book discussion group for children in grades 6 and up. Programs are held on the third Tuesday of every month, September through November, and January through May.
