As you work, you'll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Herrington Manor State Park’s 32nd Annual Fishing Rodeo

Herrington Manor State Park will hold its 32nd Annual Fishing Rodeo on May 11, 2024, from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Herrington Manor State Park Lake. Registration begins at 7:00 AM. A limited supply of fishing equipment will be available for loan during the event. The event is free but entrance fees do apply. During the Rodeo, fishing will be restricted to children ages 3 to 15, with limited adult assistance, and boating will not be permitted for participants.

A great variety of plants native to the Mid-Atlantic region will be available for sale from four nurseries: Wood Thrush Native Plant Nursery - Floyd, VA; Evergreen Heritage Center - Mount Savage, MD; Native Roots, Inc. - Mineral Wells, WV; and Wild Spirit Native Plants - Thurmont, MD. In addition to native plants there will be nature-themed items offered for sale. Bomber Down!

New Germany Lake House 403 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, MD, United States

Retired Park Ranger Rick Lewis will be presenting this true story of a B-52 bomber that crashed in a snowstorm on Big Savage Mountain in 1964. Many local people played a role in the massive search for the plane and its crew, four of whom had ejected prior to the crash. Artifacts will be available to view, including one of the actual ejection seats from the aircraft.
