Time to start planning a ramp dish to bring in for this year's Ramp Cook Off!! Maybe it's savory, maybe it's sweet, all we know is that we want to try it! Judges will be present to award this year's winner bragging rights. We will have ramps available for pick up at the Discovery Center from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM on April 26, 2024.

The club meets once a month for coffee and snacks while sharing insights and thoughts about a nature-themed book. Participants who attend six club meetings will receive a free night of camping. Meet the birds of prey for lunch at the Aviary. The Naturalists will discuss the enthralling natural history of these powerful animals as well as some peeks at how they are trained!
Want to help preserve our regional biodiversity? Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, favorite weeding tools, and some elbow grease to remove unwanted plants from the garden. As you work, you'll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
Herrington Manor State Park will hold its 32nd Annual Fishing Rodeo on May 11, 2024, from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Herrington Manor State Park Lake. Registration begins at 7:00 AM. A limited supply of fishing equipment will be available for loan during the event. The event is free but entrance fees do apply. During the Rodeo, fishing will be restricted to children ages 3 to 15, with limited adult assistance, and boating will not be permitted for participants.
Discover the important connection between native plants, people, & wildlife at the FREE event! Held at beautiful New Germany State Park in Garrett County, this festival has something for everyone! A great variety of plants native to the Mid-Atlantic region will be available for sale from four nurseries: Wood Thrush Native Plant Nursery - Floyd, VA; Evergreen Heritage Center - Mount Savage, MD; Native Roots, Inc. - Mineral Wells, WV; and Wild Spirit Native Plants - Thurmont, MD. In addition to native plants there will be nature-themed items offered for sale. Artisans include: Marta Fiscus Photography, Cumberland, MD (award winning macro photos); Peggy Nixon Designs, Salisbury, PA (hand-painted slates & note cards); Keen and Bright, Swanton, MD (glass creations); Peasant's Parcel, Capon Bridge, WV (grow your own mushrooms); and Appalachian Wax Works, Oakland, Maryland (quality goods from the beehive). Attendees will also have an opportunity to visit 'Information & Education' displays created by conservation groups and local government agencies. Enjoy this unique opportunity to experience the beauty of New Germany Lake under a full moon—from the water. This program will be limited to 16 participants. Retired Park Ranger Rick Lewis will be presenting this true story of a B-52 bomber that crashed in a snowstorm on Big Savage Mountain in 1964. Many local people played a role in the massive search for the plane and its crew, four of whom had ejected prior to the crash. Artifacts will be available to view, including one of the actual ejection seats from the aircraft.
