New Germany State Park will host Senior Rangers, a new series of programs designed for adults ages 55+, every Thursday from May 30 through June 27. Programs will include mushroom gardening, fishing, native plant identification, birding, and foraging. The programs are free (supported by the Friends of New Germany State Park), but donations are welcome. Registration is required for each weekly program and space is limited. Join yoga instructor Tina Dick for an hour-long gentle yoga session. This yoga session will take place between the playground and the kayak launch, lakeside, in the Day Use area. Yoga will be free. Simply tell staff upon arriving that you are here for the yoga class. Plan to bring a mat or beach towel to practice on. Blocks will be available for use.

So many things are happening in our area this week as we celebrate July 4th! To maintain a healthy mind and body, having a plan for scheduled time to devote to yourself is important and helps as we strive to reach our movement goals. The peaceful Paddle is scheduled for July 2nd. Kayaks or paddleboards are free to use for this program, which begins at 8:00 AM, and instruction for both is available if needed. Let’s keep moving and enjoy another beautiful week in Garrett County! This program is managed by the Garrett County Health Department’s Population Health, Innovation, and Informatics Unit, with support from CareFirst. Want to help preserve our regional biodiversity? Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, favorite weeding tools, and some elbow grease to remove unwanted plants from the garden. As you work, you'll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. The display is set to begin around 9:30 PM and is set off from the tubing hill at the Mountain Park at Wisp Resort. Free.
