You’re invited to celebrate the 46th Annual Grantsville Days Celebration! It starts with the Annual Fireman’s Parade followed by artists/vendors and food vendors in the park! There will also be lots of stuff for the kiddos like Bounce Houses, Face Painting, Balloon Artist, JTF with their games, and the Lions Club Games! Back to return is Axe Throwing with a new company plus Bull Riding! New vendors everyday again so bring the kids and get ready to have fun all weekend long!

So many things are happening in our area this week as we celebrate July 4th! To maintain a healthy mind and body, having a plan for scheduled time to devote to yourself is important and helps as we strive to reach our movement goals. The peaceful Paddle is scheduled for July 2nd. Kayaks or paddleboards are free to use for this program, which begins at 8:00 AM, and instruction for both is available if needed. Let’s keep moving and enjoy another beautiful week in Garrett County! This program is managed by the Garrett County Health Department’s Population Health, Innovation, and Informatics Unit, with support from CareFirst. Please note that this event series requires the completion of a waiver. Want to help preserve our regional biodiversity? Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, favorite weeding tools, and some elbow grease to remove unwanted plants from the garden. As you work, you'll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
Join Polska Polish Pottery of Deep Creek Lake for a weekly Tuesday Scavenger Hunt benefiting local charities! Sign up your team now (max of 20 teams) and get ready for a fun and exciting competition! The hunt begins at 9:30 AM on Tuesday at Polska Polish Pottery at Dry Dock Plaza (next to McDonald's). Teams will receive the rules and will have two hours to complete a series of tasks. Each task earns points for your team. The top 3 teams will each receive a gift! Prizes will be awarded at 9:30 AM on Wednesday at Polska Polish Pottery. Team costumes are encouraged! The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Fire on the Mountain July 4th Fireworks Display at Wisp Resort overlooking Deep Creek Lake, Maryland on July 4, 2024. The display is set to begin around 9:30 PM and is set off from the tubing hill at the Mountain Park at Wisp Resort. Free. Prime viewing locations for the annual display include: Scenic overlook along Rt. 219 Wisp Resort Lawn at Garrett College Boat on Deep Creek Lake, particularly McHenry Cove Local Businesses in McHenry Rain date: July 5th. Kids between 7-15 will learn skills that will help on their own fishing adventures. Registration is required. Registration can be done at the Discovery Center desk with a $5 payment. Callin' all Captains - decorate your boat and WIN! The Parade will start from the Silver Tree Marina docks in McHenry Cove and will proceed in single file past a number of judging stations along the route. Spectators at the judging stations will vote for their favorite boats, At the end of the judged parade, lighted boats will proceed back to the McHenry Cove at dusk. Entrants in the parade will need to pay a MINIMUM $50 registration fee, and the number of entries is limited, so be sure to pre-register to ensure your spot. Prizes this year are limited to the custom flag and trophy. All the funds raised benefit our Blind Skier and Camper Programs. The ride is for intermediate‐level riders looking to apply and improve their skills in a non‐competitive atmosphere. We will ride about 5 miles of intermediate-level terrain (about one loop), with some uphills and fun downhill-flowy sections. Then, depending on the group's appetite, we can go for another lap. There will be obstacles that require the rider to get their front wheel off the ground to clear successfully. Basic mountain biking skills are required. Short, steep climbs and descents may be encountered. More fit entry-level riders can successfully ride this intermediate trail. While still “casual” in nature, this pace will have fewer stops than a beginner ride along the way. Riders with average fitness should do fine on this level of ride.
