Baby Shower at Accident Elementary School
It’s about to get wild! Families living within the Accident Elementary school district who have a due date between July 2026 and April 2027 are invited to a community Baby Shower on July 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM = 11:30 AM. Sponsored by the Garrett County Local Management Board, this special event offers each expectant family a free diaper bag filled with new baby essentials, home safety items, and valuable community resources. Expectant mothers are welcome to bring one adult guest. Please register in advance by scanning the QR code or visiting the sign-up link. Junior Ranger Park Pals
New Germany State Park will host Junior Ranger Park Pals, a free program for children ages 5-7, every Thursday from July 23 through August 20. Each week will feature a nature-themed program, such as identifying mammals, searching for salamanders, visiting our historic one-room schoolhouse, making old-time fishing poles, nature crafts, and other activities. All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian. The programs are free (supported by the Friends of New Germany State Park), but donations are welcome. Junior Rangers at Deep Creek Lake State Park

This six-session program for children ages 7–12 runs on Thursdays from June 25th to July 30th, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM, and features hands-on learning and new nature topics each week. Little Yough Family Flicks: “The Wild Robot” Screening
The Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County will host Little Yough Family Flicks’ presentation of the 2024 film The Wild Robot on Thursday, July 30th at 7:00 PM. The screening will take place at the Oakland Mountain Fresh Farmers Market Pavilion (at the Town Parking Lot). Dreamworks’ The Wild Robot is an animated adaptation of Peter Brown’s #1 New York Times bestselling middle-grade novel of the same name. “The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot – ROZZUM unit 7134, "Roz" for short – that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.” This event is made possible thanks to our generous sponsors – Oakland Chapter #67, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Friends of the Ruth Enlow Library.
