Garrett County Health & Wellness Fair

The Garrett County Steps to Better Health Committee (STEPS) is pleased to announce that the annual Garrett County Health & Wellness Fair will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026. This free community event will bring together local healthcare providers, wellness organizations, and community partners to promote healthy living and connect residents with valuable health resources. Community members of all ages are encouraged to mark their calendars and plan to attend this highly anticipated event. The Garrett County Health & Wellness Fair will feature a wide range of exhibitors offering health education materials, preventive screenings, interactive demonstrations, door prizes, and information about local programs and services. Attendees can expect opportunities to learn more about chronic disease prevention, mental health resources, nutrition and physical activity, and other important health topics. The event aims to empower Garrett County residents to take proactive steps toward improving their overall health and well-being. Medication Take Back

Community Aquatics & Recreation Center at Garrett College 687 Mosser Road, McHenry

April is recognized as the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Month, a nationwide effort to prevent opioid misuse and keep communities safe by encouraging the proper disposal of unused or expired medications. The Garrett County Health Department, in partnership with the Maryland State Police, will be hosting two local take-back events this month: Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Mobile Market @ Grantsville Library, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2026, Garrett County Health Fair @ Carc, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Safe disposal drop boxes are also available year-round at Oakland Town Police, Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, and McHenry State Police Barracks. Proper disposal of unused medications plays a vital role in preventing prescription drugs from being misused. Opioid misuse often begins with medications found at home, and take-back programs provide a simple way for residents to protect themselves and their loved ones. Last year, the state of Maryland safely disposed of more than 22,000 pounds of medication, while Garrett County residents contributed 166 pounds of medication through local take-back efforts. ‘Explore Garrett’ Open House

Garrett College is hosting an “Explore Garrett” Open House on Saturday, April 11th, beginning at 9:30 AM in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College. Melissa Wass, director of admissions and recruitment, said the College is “looking forward to welcoming prospective students and parents to this year’s event.” “Garrett College’s Open House is an important opportunity for students and their families to experience campus, explore academic programs, and learn about the support available to help them succeed,” said Wass. “We’re proud to provide a welcoming environment where students can discover their path and feel confident about their next steps.” Those attending “Explore Garrett” will learn about GC’s academic and workforce training programs through conversations with faculty and administrators, receive information about available financial aid and scholarships, take a tour of the campus, and discover “the many benefits Garrett College has to offer,” said Wass.
