JTF Public Skate Session

Grantsville Town Park

The ice rink is located in Grantsville Town Park near the Ruth Enlow Library. All sessions are limited on the number of participants so JTF1 encourages you to buy your admissions in advance but drop-ins are also welcome. Public skates are limited to scheduled times. Please see the schedule below to plan your visit. Follow us on Facebook (JTF1 or jointtrainingfacility1) to get the most up-to-date schedule. RENTALS The Ice Rink has skates for all sizes, helmets, and skate aids for rent. Skates are $2, helmets are $1, and skate aids are $2. Skate aids are only available for children under 48 inches in height. You can bring your own bike helmet. Helmets are not required but encouraged, especially for beginners. Additionally, if you are renting skates, you are required to wear socks. Please wear full-length socks - footies, ankle socks, etc. are not appropriate to protect your skin in skates. Virtual Town Halls on State Superintendent Search

The Maryland State Board of Education will host a series of virtual town halls to obtain feedback from families, educators, administrators and community members on the State Superintendent of Schools selection process. The town halls will be conducted by executive search firm Hazard, Young, and Attea (HYA) via Zoom on the following dates: Tuesday, January 16 – 9:00 AM Wednesday, January 17 – 1:00 PM Thursday, January 18 – 6:00 PM This outreach will help to inform the State Board on the leadership qualities and attributes that Marylanders identify as critical for the role of State Superintendent. Dr. Jack Smith, former Interim State Superintendent of Schools and former Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent will facilitate the town halls on behalf of HYA and the State Board. Tree Talk Tuesday

Join Ranger Noah and student intern Maddy on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike, and learn about some of the 16 native trees that are labeled throughout the park. This will be one of a series of tree talks, with each focusing on different tree species.

Young Readers’ Book Club

Young Readers' Book Club is a book discussion group for children in grades 6 and up. Programs are held on the third Tuesday of every month September through November and January through May. Members will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group. Meetings include activities and snacks. Registration is required.
