Garrett County Celtic Festival

June 1 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Garrett County Celtic Festival at Deep Creek Lake, MD

Pipes and drum bands, including Garrett Highlanders Pipes & Drums, kick off the day with an opening parade. They return at Noon for the Gathering, led by the Knights of St. Andrews color guard from Cumberland, MD.

Featured performers include Seán Heely Celtic Band and local groups Aurora Celtic and Shanty Irish. Teelin School of Irish Dance and Thistle & Rose Highland Dancers will have toes tapping on the dance stage. Discover intimate performances from multi-instrumentalist Greg Latta, Lynne Dale on Celtic harp, and Tracy Jenkins on Scottish Border pipes.

Celt-tronic performer Melissa Cox will take the stage for the first time. Hailing from New Zealand, Cox fuses Celtic folk music with electronic instruments. Also in their festival debut is the small family band Clann Redmond from York, PA.

The Highland Games are central, with athletes competing in the heavy events all day: sheaf toss, caber toss, stone put, hammer throw, and others.

Experience Celtic traditions first-hand in arts workshops and interpretive presentations throughout the day. Celtic literature will be explored with Thomas Vose of the Ruth Enlow Library, and current works are offered by local authors. They are among the many themed wares to be found across the Celtic marketplace, along with a variety of foods and spirited drinks to enhance the village experience.

Among the many free kids’ activities are step dancing, face painting, crafts, and creating imaginative play. Kids can also play their own Highland Games with pint-sized caber toss and haggis hurl.

Gates open at 9:30 AM with entertainment through 5:00 PM. More information and a complete schedule can be found at GCCelticFestival.com. Tickets are $8-20, free for kids 12 and under, free parking.
