The Garrett County Board of Education approved lifelong resident James Friend as the new Supervisor of Instruction – Elementary, starting with the 2026–27 school year. Bringing eight years of leadership as principal at Friendsville Elementary, Mr. Friend succeeds Mrs. Candy Maust to lead elementary instructional programs district-wide.

Ahead of the 2026–27 school year, Garrett County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Nicole Miller invites the community to connect with her at several local events, including the Garrett County Fair and Stuff the Bus. Dr. Miller looks forward to building strong relationships, listening to perspectives, and gathering ideas to help shape the future of the school district.

Garrett 8 Cinemas is featuring the live-action reimagining of Moana as its Thursday Movie of the Week. You can catch the show today at either 3:00 PM or 5:30 PM for just $6.00.

Accident Elementary and Crellin Elementary are hosting community Baby Showers today for expectant families in their respective school districts. New Germany State Park hosts Junior Ranger Park Pals, a free nature program for children ages 5 to 7 running Thursdays through August 20.
