During the February 28, 2024, Special Work Session of the Garrett County Board of Education (GCBOE), the Board voted to award Dr. Brenda McCartney, GCPS Interim Superintendent, with a four-year contract as the Superintendent of Schools.
“I am honored to be offered the opportunity to serve as Superintendent, pending State approval, in a school system and community that values their schools and our commitment to excellence,” said Dr. McCartney. “Along with our many strengths, we also know we have opportunities for positive change to guide the school system to be even better in the coming years. I am looking forward to the work ahead.”
Dr. McCartney’s contract is pending approval from the Maryland State Superintendent. Upon approval, the contract will run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2028.
