The WV National Guard is performing a training exercise near Kingwood, WV June 17th, 18th and 19th, and 21st and needs “injured civilians” to assist in the realism of the training. The role player positions are paid for those 18 and over passing a background check.

SAVE THE DATE: 2021 Art In The Park event is on Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11. Art in the Park is a juried art event located in Deep Creek Lake State Park. Each year 30+ vendors display their original artwork and fine crafts over this two-day festival. Food vendors are on-site as well as kids interpretive events, tie-dye, live animals.
Friday, June 4, will be the Appalachian Fiber art event hosted by ABPH Art: “I fell in love with the mountains of the Allegheny front as a little girl. The more time I spend here the deeper I fall in love. The rugged landscape, the ephemeral plants that signal spring, the grit, and fortitude of the people who call this place home, all speak deeply to me. Appalachian Fiber is a tribute to this special place.”
Experience a Simulated Natural Disaster Training

The WV National Guard is performing a training exercise near Kingwood, WV June 17th, 18th and 19th and 21st. The NG is simulating a natural disaster that might affect people from the Mountaineer State and need “injured civilians” to assist in the realism of the training. We provide very realistic wound makeup and clothing for role players to wear. They need to wear a swimsuit and flip-flops/waterproof shoes as the clothes we provide are removed by the National Guard just as an EMT or Hospital might do around a broken leg or deep cut.
We love to hire Vets and their families! Role Players must be over 18yrs old, will need to pass a simple background check (no felonies), be physically able to walk/stand for an hour, and be able to get to and from the training area by car or car pool. For those able to do all four days there is a bonus.

Herrington Manor was designated as a state park in 1964. The 365-acre park, located within Garrett State Forest, offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, biking, picnicking, hiking, tennis, basketball, volleyball and 20 furnished log cabins for rental use year round. Interpretive programs are scheduled during the summer; and popular special events such as “apple butter boil” are held in the fall. At the heart of this park is the 53-acre Herrington Lake. Come try our cross country ski and snowshoe rentals as conditions permit, as well as fat tire bike rentals year round.

The park allows weddings and special events on the beach and surrounding areas. Permits are not required, but guests are asked to contact the park to ensure availability. Please e-mail the lead park ranger with your event date, time, and approximate amount of guests.
- All wedding parties/guests must pay the standard day-use service charges. Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, weekends and holidays $3/person for MD residents; $5/person for non-residents. All other times $3/vehicle for MD residents; $5/vehicle for non-residents.
- Other visitors may be in the area during the event.

The Potomac-Garrett State Forest, situated in southwestern Garrett County in Western Maryland, has the distinction of being the birthplace of forestry conservation in Maryland. The generous donation of 1,917 acres by the Garrett Brothers in 1906 not only serves as the foundation of the Garrett State Forest but is the root of both Maryland’s present Public Lands system and Forest Service. Mountain forests, streams and valleys make up the nearly 19,000 acres of this State Forest.
