On June 10th, the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation hosted a successful Spring/Summer Fundraiser at Firewater Kitchen & Bar. It was wonderful to see so many supporters enjoying themselves while contributing to the Foundation’s work.

Update on the 10 in 10 Project Demo Garden: On May 20, native plants like Scarlet Bee Balm, Purple Coneflower, Milkweed, and Little Bluestem Grasses were installed in the Deep Creek Lake State Park demo garden by Julia Vache, Robert Hoffmann, Carolyn Sheaffer, and volunteers. Plant tags and walking paths will be added as the plants mature.

Frederick to Deep Creek Lake ranked 44th in a recent poll of top family road trips for 2024. Salisbury to Assateague Island placed 68th, and Baltimore to Ocean City ranked 74th.

The National Weather Service forecasts a heat wave starting this week, and the Weather Channel predicts summer 2024 could see the highest temperatures in a decade. Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake offer some of North America’s best cycling. The Garrett County Gran Fondo, a premier event, features five supported ride options for all levels, from recreational cyclists to professionals. Starting early Saturday morning, enjoy the “Garrett’s Greatest 25” ride or the “Fabulous 44”, “Masochistic Metric 63”, “Savage Century 100” or the “Diabolical Double 125” to challenge yourself with steep climbs. The POA General Membership Meeting is at Garrett Cinema on Saturday at 8:30 AM, with breakfast and snacks at 8:00 AM. The agenda includes comments from county and state officials and updates on lake and area concerns. Member input and questions are welcome.

On Saturday, the Mountain Laurel Garden Club will host Victorian Garden Tours along G Street for the first time. Focusing on a specific neighborhood and residential garden era, the tours will include historical horticulture information, plant varieties, and home garden tips. The Ticket Office Museum will be open, and food trucks will offer lunch items.
