World Emoji Day

Wednesday, July 17, 2024: Today is World Emoji Day! Emoji, a Japanese expression, roughly means “picture word” and was created by Shigetaka Kurita in 1990. While working for the Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo, Kurita would design these picture words as a feature on their pagers to make them more appealing to teens. Hunters can now enter the lottery for the annual six-day black bear hunt in Western Maryland. The entry fee is $15, and applications are available from the Maryland DNR through August 31.

Some property owners members have noticed lower lake levels this year. According to Chris Nichols, lake level seem to be declining faster than in previous years, especially in shallow coves, mainly in the southern part of the lake. The ENOUGH Act targets concentrated poverty in marginalized Maryland communities, addressing higher crime rates and limited educational and economic opportunities. It partners with community organizations and non-profits to enhance quality of life. The ENOUGH Grant Program grant application deadline is July 19, 2024.
