Garrett College recently announced the upcoming Explore Garrett Open House will take place on Saturday, April 13th beginning at 9:30 AM and ending at noon. The event will be held in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College on the McHenry campus.“The Office of Admissions is looking forward to welcoming prospective students and parents to this year’s event,” said Melissa Wass, GC’s director of admissions and recruitment. “Choosing a college is a big decision, and an on-campus visit is one of the best things that can help a student make the right choice,” said Wass. “We want our guests to feel fully informed about the options available to them here at Garrett, and we look forward to sharing how we can help them reach their academic and career goals.” Those in attendance will be able to explore Garrett’s academic programs through conversations with faculty; learn about available financial aid and scholarships; take a tour of Garrett’s campus; and discover the many benefits Garrett College has to offer. GAME TIME! Civic Club of Oakland

Come play games and support local nonprofit organizations! The Civic Club will provide mahjong, monopoly, cards, scrabble, match madness, dominoes, and more. We also have a special kiddie corner for little ones to enjoy while parents have some grownup time. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Join the club for door prizes every half hour and a 50/50 raffle at the end of the event. Children under 10 are admitted free. The ticket price includes a free drink or snack. The Kiddie Corner is supervised for children aged 3 to 10. The Garrett County Democratic Central Committee announces that they will host their annual Roosevelt/Kennedy Democratic Dinner on Thursday, March 28, at 5:00 PM. at the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College. The event will be a little different from previous years in two respects.  First, it will be held earlier than usual to connect local Democrats in person with their Democratic candidates for federal office before the May 14th Primary Election, which is held earlier this year.  Secondly, this year’s dinner will be immediately followed by a Candidates Forum in the PAC Auditorium, which is sponsored by the Mountain Maryland Young Democrats and is open to the general public.  While tickets are required for the dinner, no tickets are required for the Forum As Judy Carbone, Chair of the Garrett County Democratic Central Committee, said, “This annual dinner is a chance for us to come together, share a meal, and reaffirm our commitment to ideals and strategies that will move Garrett County and our country forward.” Darryl Glotfelty, Co-Vice-Chair of the Garrett County Democratic Central Committee, agreed.  He added, “With a large Democratic ballot for both U.S. Senator and Congressional Representative from MD-06, this Primary Election on May 14th is […]

Experience the music of Scotland and Ireland as the Garrett County Celtic Festival presents “A Celtic Spring,” an evening concert featuring performances from the Seán Heely Celtic Band and Greg Latta. The concert will be held at the Performing Arts Center of Garrett College in McHenry, MD on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Seán Heely is a U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion as well as an award-winning Irish fiddler, singer, and harpist. Based in the Washington, D.C. area, he has performed in Scotland, Ireland, South America, Germany, and more locally at the prestigious Kennedy Center, as well as pubs, concert halls, and festivals throughout the country. Other Celtic Band members include All-Ireland singing champion Kevin Elam, bouzouki and bass player Beth Patterson, acclaimed percussionist Lucas Ashby, and percussive dancer Agi Kovacs. The multi-instrumentalists will perform ancient, soaring melodies from Scotland, Ireland, and beyond, including Scots Gaelic songs, ballads, sea shanties, pub songs, and more from the rich Celtic folk tradition. Members of the public will also have the chance to speak during the meeting. Garrett Choral Society’s Annual Christmas Concert “Repeat the Sounding Joy”

The Garrett Choral Society will present its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, December 17th at 3pm. In the first half of "Repeat the Sounding Joy", listeners will be treated to favorite carols such as O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Mary Did You Know? Two original compositions by Dr. Sean Beachy will also be included. The second half of the concert features Vivaldi's Gloria. A string ensemble will accompany selected works in addition to piano accompaniment. The performance will be held in the Offutt Theatre at Garrett College's Performing Arts Center.  Tickets are available at The Gallery Shop in Oakland (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Wednesday thru' Saturday), online at www.GarrettArts.org and at the door.  Admission is free for children 5 years and younger.  Adult tickets cost $15 while student tickets cost $5.

The Garrett Community Concert Band presents "A Festival of Carols." This holiday concert will be held on Sunday, December 3rd at 3pm.  The performance will be held in the Offutt Theatre at Garrett College's Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at The Gallery Shop in Oakland (10am to 5pm Wednesday thru' Saturday), online at www.GarrettArts.org and at the door.  The price is $10 for adults and $5 for students.  Children 5 and under are admitted free of charge.
