The Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County to Host a Free Screening of “Free For All: The Public Library” Documentary Followed by a Community-Driven Discussion

The Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County will be hosting a free screening of the new PBS Independent Lens documentary, Free For All: The Public Library (a Serendipity Films, LLC Production), on Wednesday, May 21st at 5:00 PM at the Main Library in Oakland. You will learn how public libraries shaped the country and continue to be a sanctuary for Americans everywhere. The screening will be followed by a community-driven discussion about the documentary.

Free for All: The Public Library tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today’s librarians who serve the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.

The program is made possible through a partnership with Maryland Libraries Together and the Howard County Library System.
