Longtime coach Tom Bosley has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the 56th Annual Autumn Glory Grand Feature Parade sponsored by First United Bank & Trust, held on October 14, 2023, at 1:00 PM. The Town of Oakland and Greater Oakland Business Association are the sponsors for the 2023 Grand Marshal.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to honor Coach Bosley as our grand marshal for this year’s parade,” said Nicole McCullough, Grand Feature Parade Coordinator. “This is just a small way for us to show our appreciation for his longtime dedication to this community and its youth.”
Bosley, who retired earlier this year, was a 1971 Southern Garrett High School graduate and 1976 Frostburg State graduate. His tenure as coach at SGHS spanned 27 years and through three different eras: coaching in 1978-79 through 1981-82, 1989-90 through 2004-05, and 2014-15 through 2022-23. He led the SGHS boys’ team to four Maryland 1A State Final 4 tournaments, including a State Champion title in 2018-19.
His impressive history with SGHS also includes five Region Championships, eleven Conference Championships, seven 20-Win Seasons, six Cumberland Times-News Area Championships, four All-State Players, fourteen players selected to the Times-News All-Area, eight players selected as the Times-News Player of the Year or Conference Player of the Year, and twenty-three of his players have gone on to play basketball in college.
Most notably, in March of 2022, Bosley was invited to coach the East team at the 45th McDonald’s All-American Game in Chicago, along with assistant coaches Matt Redinger and Corey Bosley. The All-American Game features the best high school basketball players in the nation and Canada.
The Autumn Glory Grand Feature Parade committee is proud to honor Coach Bosley for his commitment and devotion to the game of basketball and the players, students, and staff that he inspired along the way.
