Last March 17, the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, in celebration of the opening of Wildom Farm’s Farm Store.

Business Development Specialist and Chair of the Garrett County Diplomats, Connor Norman led the ceremony. County Commissioners Larry Tichnell and Ryan Savage; Garrett County Chamber of Commerce President Will Wrobleski; and Agriculture Business Specialist Melissa Bolyard all congratulated Wildom Farm proprietor Julie Friend and thanked her for her investment in the county. Wrobleski also read an official Maryland General Assembly citation, provided by Delegate Jim Hinebaugh, recognizing the occasion.

“Agriculture and small business are key elements of our economy,” said Wrobleski. “Wildom Farm embodies the best of both of those. Julie represents the next generation of farming and agriculture, and Wildom Farm is a welcome addition to our business community.”

Garrett County Diplomats Anne Davidson, Jessica Dijak, Julie Mead, Connor Norman, and Kristin Skeweris presented Julie with a First Dollar of Profit Certificate and assisted in the official ribbon cutting.

“What’s even better than knowing your farmer’s name? Buying your food directly from the farm, on the same land it was produced,” said Julie Friend. “Our farm store not only allows customers to conveniently shop for good, healthy, meat but it also gives them a transparent view of how the animals are raised. We’re honored to be producing food for our local community and we’re certain this is just the beginning.”

Wildom Farm is a regenerative farm, located in McHenry, Maryland, that prioritizes animal welfare, ecology, and human health. They raise multi-species in a forest and pasture-based system. Wildom Farm’s cattle, sheep, and chickens graze their holistically managed pastures and their turkeys and pigs forage through the forests. Wildom Farm’s animals are rotated to new areas consistently. This movement allows them to always access fresh forage and explore new territory, while also giving the soil an opportunity to rest, recover, and regenerate.

Wildom Farm offers pasture-raised chicken, forest-raised pork, 100% grass-fed beef & lamb, heritage breed turkey, and pasture-raised eggs. Their products are available at their Farm Store, located near Deep Creek Lake. They also deliver monthly to Pittsburgh and ship nationwide.

Wildom Farm hosts farm tours, farm yoga, farm dinners, butchery workshops, and more. The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce is the largest professional business association in the region with 500 members representing every industry in the community. The mission of the Chamber is to organize, support and represent Garrett County’s business community in advancing common interests and, additionally, to promote Garrett County’s hospitality and recreation industry by attracting visitors to the county through comprehensive marketing. The Garrett County Chamber also serves as the Destination Marketing Organization and Heritage Area Management entity for the County.
