Race Results for Garrett Coyotes at MoCo Madness

Race Results for the Garrett County Composite Mountain Biking Team at Schaeffer Farm Trails in Germantown, MD October 8th, 2022

The highly anticipated MICL MoCo Madness Race took place on October 8th after the first head to head race of the season was canceled due to unsafe trail conditions. The 4.1 mile race loop lived up to its reputation as a terrific combination of fun trails that were flowy enough to keep riders grinning the whole lap. The single track race course challenged student-athletes with a race loop that was fast but narrow. It had limited passing options, several stream crossings and multiple punchy climbs full of wet roots.

Four Coyotes girls battled their way to the podium and all 6 girls racing finished in the top 10 of their division. In the girls 6th grade division, Aspen Smith took 2nd place completing 2 race laps with a time of 57:30.37. Sophomores Iris Dunbansky finished 2nd in the Girls JV3 Div. in 52:10.04 and Ashlynn Anderson finished 5th in the Girls JV2 Div. in 55:26.47. Ava Anderson took 4th place in the Girls 7th grade div. with a time of 57:35.17 and Tessa Dubansky came in 8th place finishing the 1 lap race in 29 minutes and 22 seconds. Eight grader Anna Bucznski finished in a very respectable 8th place completing her two laps in 58:54.78.

The middle school boys division totaled 173 riders on the same race course at the same time. In the 8th grade div., Cooper Haley finished 9th place in 46:04.51, Jason VanAntwerp came in 11th place in 46:27.22, Andrew SanJulian took 18th in 48:43.42, and Henry Faulkner finished 30th in 51:40.32. In the boys 7th grade div. Cam Hudnall finished two laps in 53:33.07to capture 19th place and Jake Richards finished one lap 32 minutes and 4 seconds to take the 49th position. In the Boys 6th grade div. Ryan Aldridge took 39th place finishing his 1 lap race in 40:07.

The boys high school divisions were packed with super fast and very experienced riders. Competing in the Varsity Div, Nathan Aldridge came from the last starting position (29th) and raced his way through the fastest riders completing 4 laps to finish in 9th place. His time for the 16.5 mile race was 1:15.59.14. Teammate Jackson Hordubay competed in the Boys JV1 division and finished the 3 lap race in 13th place with a time of 1:02:45.37. Freshman Micah Bucznski raced the two lap race in the boys JV3 Div. and finished in 12th place with a time of 48:01.44.

The team finished 7th overall but just as importantly, they experienced a great pre-ride, shared campfire stories, and joined other MICL teams in some great flashlight camp games the night before the race. They continue to build and strengthen the future of youth mountain biking in Maryland.

The Coyotes’ next event is the Fairhill Frenzy on October 22nd-23rd at the Fairhill NRMA, Elkton, MD.
