Oakland, MD Trumpeter to be Featured in Shanksville Remembrance

Thomas Simpson, a resident of Oakland, will play the trumpet in David Kanter’s “September Morning, a Memorial Anthem after 9/11/2001” at the Flight 93 National Memorial on 9/11/2022.  Mr. Simpson will join a choir directed by Annick Kanter-St. Hubert for two performances of the work, which was written shortly after the attacks on 9/11/2001.

“September Morning” is written in four verses for choir and piano with a spoken narration and trumpet obligato.

The morning ceremony will take place at the Memorial Plaza near the Wall of Names.   A second performance will be sung at 2 pm near the Visitor Shelter, during which the choir will also sing several other works.

No tickets are required to visit the Memorial.  Check the Flight 93 National Memorial website about the morning ceremony at www.nps.gov/flni.  You may also visit septembermorning.net to hear David Kanter’s work, or visit Facebook at “September Morning, a musical tribute to 9/11/2001.”
