On Saturday, May 6, 2023, Northern Garrett Middle School students Brady Garlitz, Henry Faulkner, Eden Rankin, Jessalyn Simmons, and Lydia Wilburn represented Garrett County in the State Maryland History Day competition at UMBC. All students did an excellent job presenting their research and being interviewed by judges from across the state.
For the first time ever, Northern Middle has TWO projects that placed for competition at Nationals. The 2nd Place Group Website winners were Eden Rankin and Jessalyn Simmons, and the 2nd Place Individual Exhibit winner was Lydia Wilburn. “It is so nice to see their hard work and scholarship recognized,” said Amanda Wilburn, Social Studies Department Chair NGMS. “I would like to thank Mrs. Schilpp, our media specialist, as well. She was very instrumental in helping students to research their topics. Her role is invaluable.”
The 2023 National Contest will be held June 11-15, 2023, at the University of Maryland, College Park. The NHD National Contest kicks off with a welcome ceremony to greet students and celebrate their hard work. Students then compete over several days in preliminary and final rounds.
