Natural Resources Careers Camp Provides Hands-On Experience for Future Conservationists at Deep Creek Lake, MD

The Natural Resources Careers Camp was recently held at Hickory Environmental Education Center. The camp is a yearly Hickory event presented by the Maryland Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards and Allegany College of Maryland in partnership with the Maryland Forestry Foundation and Maryland DNR Forest Service.

Over 50 campers and staff from Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware stayed at Hickory for a week in July this year. The campers range in age from 15-18 and are interested in a career in natural resources management, such as soils, forestry, fisheries, and firefighting. Students completed various activities throughout the week, including visiting a sawmill, participating in a tree-climbing demonstration, and developing a management plan.
