Lions Clubs International recognizes outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named for its founder, Melvin Jones. This Fellowship Award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. The purpose of Lionism is to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world, to promote the principles of good government and good citizenship, and to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community. Christopher J. Nichols, Jr. of the Deep Creek Lake Lions Club embodies Lionism. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award at the Deep Creek Lake Lions Club annual holiday party held at Ace’s. Christopher has held every position of the Deep Creek Lake Lions Club and has been a catalyst on most of the projects over the past twenty years. Prior recipients of the Melvin Jones Award, Ken Bush and Tommy Wenzel presented the award to Christopher Nichols.
