Health Department to Give Flu Shots In Middle and High Schools

The Garrett County Health Department (GCHD) will be offering flu shots again this fall to medically eligible middle and high school students.  An informational packet containing a consent form will be sent home with students the first week in September.

Parents who want their student to receive a flu shot at the school should complete and sign the consent form and return it to the school. Parents who do not want their student vaccinated need to do nothing but discard the packet.  Consenting students will receive the vaccine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates: Northern High School, Wednesday, September 25; Southern Middle School, Thursday, September 26; Northern Middle School, Monday, September 30; and Southern High School, Wednesday, October 2.

Parents may also find the informational packet/consent form on the GCHD website at https://garretthealth.org/ .

Flu Mist®, the nasal spray flu vaccine is back for the 2nd year, but will not be offered in the schools.  It will, however, be available at walk-in community clinics and is recommended for healthy persons aged 2 to 49 years of age.
