The Garrett County Public Schools Maintenance Department, Superintendent, and Board of Education, in conjunction with its construction partners on the Grantsville Elementary School project, have issued a revised timeline for completion. Due to industry-wide shortages and difficulty obtaining materials needed in a timely manner, the Facility Upgrade Project timeline for completion has been pushed back to January 3, 2023.
“I would like to commend the contractors for their efforts to bring the Grantsville project to completion as quickly as possible,” said the Director of Maintenance, Facilities, Operations, and Transportation. “While every effort has been made to ensure that students are back in their normal location for the start of the coming school year, this, unfortunately, is not going to happen due to long lead times on product and other circumstances beyond our control.”
Superintendent Baker added, “Our goal all along has been to open Grantsville Elementary School to students and the faculty when school started again after the summer break. Our contractors must have all materials necessary to complete the project and, unfortunately, that is not possible with the nationwide supply chain delays. Students who attend Grantsville Elementary will continue to receive instruction at Northern Middle School until the school is complete and ready. We thank everyone for their patience.”
Updates to the project will be made as deemed necessary by the GCPS administration.
