The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce and Garrett County Economic Development partnered to present the eighth annual Business & Industry Appreciation at the Chamber’s Business Before Hours on September 17, 2019. The program was sponsored by Clear Mountain Bank and Shentel.
The purpose of the program was to recognize the economic development, job creation and investment that is happening in our community. The program featured keynote speaker Benjamin H. Wu, Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce, recognition of new businesses, growing/expanding businesses and businesses that have hit milestones of 50, 75 or 100 years in operation. All businesses and industries headquartered and/or located in Garrett County were eligible. Chamber membership was not required.

This year, the Chamber and Economic Development recognized 39 new businesses and 4 expanding businesses. Only companies that began operations or expanded after August 31, 2018 were recognized. No businesses were celebrating a milestone of 50, 75 or 100 years in operation this year. “These new businesses and expansions are a positive sign of the continual innovation taking place in our community,” said Christian. “It is our hope that this program helps people take notice that there is growth and development happening in Garrett County. It may not be flashy like landing Amazon HQ2 but these businesses are creating jobs and investing in our community and we’re proud to have them in Garrett County.”
