Free Pickleball Clinic Promotes Healthy Choices for Garrett County Youth

The Garrett County Health Department is hosting a free pickleball clinic for kids aged 8 to 18 on Saturday, September 7th, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Grantsville Town Park. This event is part of a broader initiative funded by a recent grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to prevent youth substance use in our community.

The clinic aims to introduce young people to the popular sport of pickleball while promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles. By engaging youth in positive activities, organizers hope to reduce the risk of substance abuse and create a supportive environment for making healthy choices.

“This event is just one way we’re working to change the culture around drug use acceptability among our youth,” said Shannon Sexton, Program Coordinator in Health Education & Outreach at the Garrett County Health Department.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their children to this fun and educational event. No prior pickleball experience, equipment, or registration is necessary. Participants should wear shoes with laced ties for safety.
