Fourth of July Safety Tips for Your Furry Friends

The Fourth of July is right around the corner! While we love the festivities, fireworks and loud celebrations can be stressful, and even dangerous for our pets. In fact, more pets go missing around this holiday than any other time of year. But with a little planning, you can help keep your furry friends safe and calm.

If your pet tends to get anxious, give our Bredel Veterinary Clinic a call at 301-387-7729 before July 3. We’re here to help with tips, advice, or medications that might make the holiday easier on your pet.

Here are a few simple ways to keep them comfortable:

  • Keep Them Indoors – Even outdoor-loving pets should stay inside during fireworks. Make sure all windows, doors, and gates are secure.
  • Create a Safe Space – Set up a cozy area with their favorite blanket, toys, and water. A quiet, familiar spot can ease their anxiety.
  • Stay Close – If possible, stay home with your pet during fireworks. Your calm presence can help soothe their nerves.
  • Distract & Reward – Treats, toys, and snuggles go a long way! Reward calm behavior and keep them engaged.
  • Check ID & Microchips – Make sure your pet’s ID tags are up to date and their microchip info is current, just in case.

Let’s make this Fourth of July a safe and stress-free celebration for all family members, two- and four-legged alike!
