We kicked off the first DCAB women’s ride of the season this week and it felt great to be riding on dirt again!

One of the riders joined us for the first time and mentioned right away that she was a little nervous. That’s something I hear a lot but here is your reminder that we try our best to keep it simple and casual. We’re happy to take it slow, talk about skills, and no one gets left behind.

We rolled out on the orange trail at Herrington Manor State Park/Garrett State Forest from “the dip”. We rode clockwise for about five miles. Nothing crazy but it was the first ride after a long winter: you feel it in your legs, your lungs, and your balance… all of it. So we took it slow. We stopped when we needed to. We talked. We laughed. We adjusted. No pressure to keep a pace, no pressure to prove anything.

The trail was in great shape and it was nice to get into the flow of the machined surface with little rollers and berms. There did seem to be a lot of little rocks on the surface and I think that’s the result of a long winter, too. The trails freeze and thaw and push little rocks up and out. As the trails get ridden, they will smooth out little by little.

Remember, you can ride with us! Follow DCAB to find out where we’re riding every Thursday this summer: it’s about being outside, getting movement in your day, and meeting new friends.

And we have fun!
