WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) is pleased to announce five scholarships awarded to students pursuing careers in radiologic technology through Garrett College. Each scholarship is valued at $10,000 and provides two years of educational support at Garrett College.
The scholarships are made possible through the generosity of the Garrett Regional Medical Center Foundation and reflects GRMC’s commitment to investing in local students while strengthening the healthcare workforce throughout the region
In exchange for the scholarship support, each recipient agrees to a two-year employment commitment at either Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland or Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, W.Va., following completion of their education.
The 2026 scholarship recipients are: Sophia Dewitt, Grantsville; Kylie Keplinger, Keyser, W.Va.; Sophia Kolobow, Terra Alta, W.Va.; Trevor Schrock, Grantsville; and Abigail Weimer, Lonaconing.
“Investing in students who are pursuing careers in healthcare is an investment in the future of our community,” said Mark Boucot, president and CEO of Garrett Regional Medical Center and Potomac Valley Hospital. “These scholarships provide students with an opportunity to further their education close to home while creating a pathway for them to return to our hospitals and serve the patients and families who call our region home.”
Radiologic technologists play an essential role in patient care, using medical imaging technology to help physicians diagnose and evaluate a wide range of conditions. By supporting students entering the field, GRMC is helping cultivate the next generation of healthcare professionals while creating opportunities for students to build meaningful careers in their own communities.

President Boucot has always been a strong proponent of community partnerships – and this is just the latest example of that philosophy in action,” said Dr. Richard Midcap, President of Garrett College. “Garrett College’s radiologic technology program will address a critical local healthcare need, and the Foundation scholarships will play a critical role in supporting the next generation of Western Maryland healthcare professionals.”
The scholarship program is also part of GRMC’s broader commitment to developing local talent and strengthening the regional healthcare workforce. By providing financial assistance and a potential career pathway, the program helps students pursue rewarding healthcare careers without having to leave the area.
