Garrett County and the Deep Creek Lake area boast some of the finest and most challenging cycling in North America, and the Garrett County Gran Fondo has established itself as a premier North American Gran Fondo unsurpassed in challenge, scenery, and riding quality. The GCGF has a ride for everyone from recreational cyclists to seasoned professionals with five supported ride options. With the exception of the “Garrett’s Greatest 25”, all GCGF routes are extremely challenging, very steep climbing affairs and riders should plan accordingly. Some hills peak out at over 20% pitch and have extended stretches well into the teens. It is highly recommended that you gear your bike appropriately for severe climbing. All proceeds from the GCGF go to the Garrett Trails Nonprofit located in Garrett County, Maryland, to benefit trails throughout the area. REGISTER HERE

On June 22, the Mountain Laurel Garden Club Victorian Garden Club Tours will showcase cottage gardens along G Street. This will be the first time the club has selected a single neighborhood for its tours. Traditionally, garden tours are scattered throughout the county with a variety of styles and ages of homes with accompanying gardens. With guests being invited to one location, the tours will focus on a particular residential garden era. The tours will include historical information about horticulture, varieties of plants, and general information about home gardens. The Ticket Office Museum will be open during the tours, and food trucks will offer lunch items.

Discussion will include where to find the best pet-friendly amenities, how to keep your pet safe in the outdoors, and tips to maximize fun for everyone! Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to attend this outdoor program, which will conclude with an optional easy pack walk along the Turnpike Trail to enjoy the seasonal sights (and smells!) of New Germany.
