Reflection House has embarked on a fundraising and public awareness campaign to support the Reflection House: Garrett County’s First Residential Recovery House for Women. We also want to educate the community and eliminate the stigma associated with substance use disorder. This 2-mile trail route or 1-mile paved course is open to all as a way to unify and strengthen our community. We will walk to raise awareness about this important issue and share the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover. REGISTER HERE FOR THE WALK There is a suggested $10 donation to participate although no amount is required. Every person registered to walk will receive a t-shirt. The Maryland State Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, August 27 at 9:00 AM at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building, Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), 200 W. Baltimore St., in the State Board Room (7th floor). The State Board will review the results from the 2023-24 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program. There will also be a public hearing at 3:30 PM on the draft Comprehensive K-3 Literacy Policy proposed to the State Board by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). During the one-hour hearing, the State Board will receive comments from up to 20 members of the public. A virtual option is also available for testimony. The literacy policy was revised based on feedback given during the original open comment period that ended last month. Major revisions include clarifying the role of family partnerships, implementing grade promotion and retention policies, and offering options in lieu of retention. A timeline for implementation is also included. Following the public hearing, the literacy policy will be finalized for the State Board's consideration and vote at its September meeting. As you work, you'll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
Join Polska Polish Pottery of Deep Creek Lake for a weekly Tuesday Scavenger Hunt benefiting local charities! Sign up your team now (max of 20 teams) and get ready for a fun and exciting competition! The hunt begins at 9:30 AM (but teams are welcome to join until 6:00 PM) on Tuesday at Polska Polish Pottery at Dry Dock Plaza (next to McDonald's). Teams will receive the rules and will have two hours to complete a series of tasks. Each task earns points for your team. The top 3 teams will each receive a gift! Prizes will be awarded at 9:30 AM on Wednesday at Polska Polish Pottery. Team costumes are encouraged! The team registration fee is $25, payable at Polska Polish Pottery. All fees will be donated to a local charity!
