New this year, we will only have morning stops to get in all the fun before it gets too hot! All Learning Beyond the Classroom events are for ALL GARRETT COUNTY FAMILIES with children birth-K!
Join the naturalists at the Discovery Center to learn how to partake in one of the best pastimes Deep Creek has to offer– fishing! Kids between 7-15 will learn skills that will help on their own fishing adventures. Registration is required. Registration can be done at the Discovery Center desk with a $5 payment. Guardians must remain present during fishing.

Bring a tomato to enter the contest, taste different varieties, visit displays to learn about gardening, and discover new recipes! It’s free and fun for everyone! Tomatoes must be grown by participants. Unripe tomatoes may be entered in the Largest and Ugliest categories. Entries will not be returned. The contest is open to anyone in the tri-state area. Additional restrictions may apply. If you know the tomato variety, please provide that information when registering your entries. Judging will take place at 4:00 PM, with winners announced at 5:00 PM. One entry per category is allowed. Tomatoes used for crowd tasting are not the ones entered into the contest. The University of Maryland Extension in Garrett County sponsors this 2nd Annual Tomato Festival. Jesse Shimrock will be performing from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM! Bring a chair or blanket for the lawn. Bring your own non-alcoholic beverage. The campus has a strict no-alcohol policy. Your furry friends are welcome in outdoor areas as long they're leashed and under your watchful eye.
