Reflection House has embarked on a fundraising and public awareness campaign to support the Reflection House: Garrett County’s First Residential Recovery House for Women. We also want to educate the community and eliminate the stigma associated with substance use disorder. This 2-mile trail route or 1-mile paved course is open to all as a way to unify and strengthen our community. We will walk to raise awareness about this important issue and share the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover. The ride is for intermediate‐level riders looking to apply and improve their skills in a non‐competitive atmosphere. We will ride about 5 miles of intermediate-level terrain (about one loop), with some uphills and fun downhill-flowy sections. Then, depending on the group, we can split off or go for another lap. There will be obstacles that require the rider to get their front wheel off the ground to clear successfully. Basic mountain biking skills are required. Short, steep climbs and descents may be encountered. More fit entry-level riders can successfully ride this intermediate trail. Occurring on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Friendsville branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home, or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing.
