Spring Equinox Hike

Park PROs – Introduction to Fishing

During this informal how-to class, Rangers Brian and Noah will provide one-on-one instruction on basic fishing techniques for beginner anglers ages six and up. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fishing gear and bait will be supplied. Participants ages 16 and up will need a valid Maryland non-tidal fishing license.

Park PROs – Hickory Syrup Making and Tasting

Come out and enjoy this fun and unique Park PROs opportunity to make hickory syrup from shagbark hickory trees. Ranger Noah will take you through all the steps you need to know to make your own hickory syrup at home. Free samples will be offered at the end of the program. An easy 1-mile hike will be offered afterwards for anyone who wants to see actual shagbark hickory trees.

Park PROs – Intro to Maple Syrup Making

Interested in tapping your own maple trees for syrup? Join Ranger Noah for this Park PROs introduction class, where you will learn all the steps you need to make your very own maple syrup. This 1-hour program will include a short walk to get to the maple trees.

EGGstreme Easter Egg Hunt

New Germany State Park will host the 8th annual EGGstreme Easter Egg Hunt on March 30 from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This event is designed for families to experience the outdoors together and will feature more than 5,000 eggs hidden along 10 miles of trails within the park. This event will involve hiking on trails with various difficulty ratings (some may not be suitable for small children). All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the entire activity. Families can register at the Lake House at 403 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, at any time during the event. Candy and prizes will be awarded only to those who are registered and who return their eggs while supplies last. A maximum of 25 eggs per family may be collected. Families should dress appropriately for hiking and bring their own necessities, such as drinking water and Easter baskets. Trail maps will be provided. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. This event is sponsored by the Friends of New Germany State Park, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the park. Natural Egg Dying

Bring your eggs and meet in the Discovery room to explore the natural colors of the world. The volunteers will be there to help you dye your eggs and learn where the beautiful colors come from!

Easter Egg Hunt

Dans Mountain State Park 17410 Recreation Area Rd SW, Lonaconing, MD, United States

The annual Dans Mountain Easter Egg Hunt is one of the area's largest hunts, featuring more than 2,000 eggs hidden across two acres! The hunt will begin promptly at 1:15 PM. Families should bring their own Easter baskets and arrive no later than 1:00 PM. to ensure adequate time for parking and instructions before the event. Children will be placed into one of three age groups. After the hunt, eggs can be redeemed for candy and prizes. Participants can also enjoy free hot dogs and drinks, and a visit with the Easter Bunny. This annual event is organized by the Dans Mountain Park Association, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the park.

Furs, Feathers, and Skulls

Drop by the Lake House for this hands-on program, where Ranger Noah will be displaying a collection of furs, feathers, and skulls. Test your knowledge of local birds and mammals and learn about the unique traits that set these animals apart. This program is a "come-and-go" style display, so feel free to stop by at any point during the program timeframe.

Solar Eclipse Watch Party

Join Ranger Noah for this rare opportunity to view a solar eclipse! The watch party will begin at 2:00 PM, but guests are welcome to stop by at any point during the program timeframe. The eclipse will peak at 3:21 PM. A limited supply of viewing glasses will be available, along with some light snacks and outdoor games. Registerstration is not required but is greatly appreciated.
