The Town of Friendsville will conduct its Fall Leaf Pick-Up starting Monday, September 28, through Monday, November 23, 2026. Please follow these collection guidelines: Place all leaves at the edge of your property along the roadway in a pile, not a row. Ensure piles are free of sticks, branches, flowers, and other debris. Note that collection dates are weather permitting. Help keep Friendsville clean and beautiful this autumn!
Occurring on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Kitzmiller branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance, and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide a referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Looking for a fun group activity that also helps the community? Deep Creek Pottery invites you to gather your friends, coworkers, or club and make an empty bowl to help fight hunger in Garrett County. Gather a group of at least 6 people. Cost is $10-$15 per person. Set up a time that works for your group, and bring snacks and wine if you'd like. Make a bowl using pinch, coil, or slab techniques under the guidance of a skilled potter -- or paint an already-fired bowl with help from the instructor. Your bowls will be fired, finished, and donated to the Empty Bowls Dinner this fall, which raises funds to fight food insecurity in Garrett County. Go home knowing your group did something good for the community while having fun together. The Empty Bowls Dinner will be held on September 20, 2026, at Wisp Resort for the benefit of Garrett County Community Action Food Security Programs.
