The Victorian Adventure Each year, Mountain Lake Park celebrates its founding with The Victorian Chautauqua on the weekend following the 4th of July. Performances, lectures, live music, and activities relive a bygone era that began as a planned community along the B&O Railroad. The Victorian Chautauqua is more than a festival. It's an experience. Live historical portrayals, music, lectures, vaudeville acts, and Kid-Tauqua for the little ones make a perfect family outing. It's history & fun for all ages and walks of life! Programs will unfold under three tents and in the street. The Martin Tent will feature historical performances and music. The Deaconess Tent will present informative lectures, and the Kid-Tauqua Tent will host programs and all-day activities for children. Deep Creek Lake State Park is hosting its 26th Annual Art in the Park event in the Day Use Area by the beaches on Saturday, July 11th, from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and Sunday, July 12th, from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM! Visitors can browse beautiful, nature-inspired works from 30 local artists, enjoy delicious food vendors, and stop by the mobile Discovery Center during this must-attend weekend. NOTE to artists and vendors: This event is juried by the Garrett County Arts Council, and no applications are sent or available until the artist has been juried into the event. RECITAL TO PREMIERE SONGS FOR AMERICA, SUNDAY, JULY 12 AT 6:00 PM AT TRINITY UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, UNIONTOWN Dr. Julianne Laird, soprano, and RJ Nestor, piano, will present a recital entitled Songs for America on Sunday, July 12 at 6:00 PM at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 79 W. Fayette St., Uniontown, PA. The recital is a collection of vocal music that honors America250 through the words and music of diverse composers and authors recalling the foundations, dreams, and stories of the American experience. The program will include the premiere of Nestor's song cycle, Songs for America, as well as his 2019 song cycle, Five Appalachian Songs. Additionally, Laird and Nestor will perform selections by Native American composer Louis Wayne Ballard, and by African American women composers Florence Price and Undine Smith Moore. Dr. Julianne Laird served for three decades as a choral and string music educator in the Indiana Area School District. Laird holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance from West Virginia University, where she studied with Dr. Hope Koehler.
