Occurring on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Kitzmiller branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance, and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide a referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information, or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing. Families interested in enrolling students at Swan Meadow School for the 2026-27 school year are invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. The Open House will provide prospective families with an opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers and staff, and learn more about the educational experiences available to students in grades K-8. Attendees will also have the chance to explore the school's STEM lab, discover student service opportunities, and ask questions about academics, programs, and daily school life. In addition, school representatives will be available to assist families with enrollment and out-of-area Transfer Requests for the upcoming school year. The event is designed to help families become familiar with the school community and learn more about the opportunities available to students at Swan Meadow School. Registration is required and participants must be age six or older. Parents and younger siblings are asked to wait in the library during the program.
