Join Oakland Library for a storytime designed for children ages 3 and up. This program promotes creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension, and school readiness through stories, STEM activities, games, music, and crafts. Disclaimers: This program is designed for children and accompanying adults. Please plan to attend and be engaged with your child in this program. Drop-offs will not be permitted. Programs, events, and classes may be photographed or videotaped for library promotional purposes. Occurring on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Friendsville branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home, or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing. Welcome to LEGO Club @ the Library! LEGO Club runs September-May and meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 4:30-5:30 pm. A monthly building theme will be suggested or builders may choose to free-build. The Library will provide the LEGO's while you provide the imagination. Please note: If school is closed or has an early dismissal due to inclement weather there will be no LEGO program.
