Deep Creek Lake Lions Club Seeking Public Input on Inclusive Playground

The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club recently convened a special advisory committee to provide input and recommendations for creating an inclusive playground that welcomes and ensures access to all children and adults with disabilities and encourages socialization between those with without disabilities.

Present at the meeting was Landon Georg, a sixth grader at Southern Middle School who initiated the project with his dream to provide a “wheelchair swing” and an accessible playground for people with disabilities. Landon and his parents, Tiffany and Brian Georg, have already raised nearly $25,000 in donations to seed the project’s funding.

The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club is collaborating with other county groups to establish and maintain the inclusive playground. It is hoped that the inclusive playground, the first in Garrett County, will serve the local community and encourage visitors to Deep Creek Lake to enjoy the Lions’ McHenry Community Park.

The club is now seeking input from local and visiting individuals in an effort to gather insight and opinions relative to the club’s efforts to make the playground a reality. In an effort to ensure the voice of Garrett County citizens and visitors is clearly heard as they plan, design, and build the park, the club is asking all to complete a survey at https://tinyurl.com/3n7nt9n8. If you need help answering the questions in the survey, please contact Deep Creek Lake Lions Club member Mike McCue at mmccue@pitt.edu.
