Deep Creek Lake Lions Club Hosts Successful Blind Campers Program at Deep Creek Lake, MD

2023 blind campers along with family members, DCL Lions club members, and volunteers

The 2023 Deep Creek Lake Lions Club blind camper program was a rousing success. The event, held from July 24th through July 27th at the McHenry Community Park and other area locations, included swimming, boating, hiking, games, campfire singing, and interactions with horses, with lots of fun and the making of memories for all involved.

The program included seven visually impaired campers from the area, plus 13 family members for a total of 20 campers. Over a dozen Lions Club volunteers participated along with a number of community volunteers and local organizations.

“We had another great camping experience this year and I want to thank the youth, their families, and the numerous volunteers along with the community support organizations that gave us free goods and services and/or discounts. This was a people-intensive effort that required support from the campers, their families, the club members, and numerous others,” stated Deep Creek Lake Lions Club president Mike O’Brien.

The Deep Creek Lions Club serves the Garrett County, MD area with the annual Blind Skiers and Blind Campers initiatives. The Deep Creek Lake Lions also provide community service through financial assistance for vision-related healthcare, eyeglass recycling, support to local and global organizations, and the operation of the McHenry Community Park at 1249 Bumble Bee Road. The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at the park pavilion on Bumble Bee Road.
