State Tree Nursery is now open and taking orders for 2025 planting! The online tree seedling catalog is available for spring 2025 orders, featuring over 55 species, including some new options this year. The seedling crop is thriving, with more than 3 million seedlings ready for you!

Halloween is approaching, bringing spooky decorations and haunted displays! The Kids’ Book Club at Oakland Library is a book discussion group for children in grades 3-5. Members receive books to read and discuss, with meetings featuring fun activities and snacks. The next meeting is on October 22. Registration is required.

“Before the Dam: Life around Deep Creek Pre-1925” is happening tonight at the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College! This free, public event will include light refreshments. Chris Nichols, a Garrett County resident and board member of the Garrett County Historical Society, will present a lecture exploring life before Deep Creek Lake’s creation in 1925. He’ll share maps, commentary, and historic newspaper articles to bring this fascinating history to life.
