Monday, September 2, 2024: The Labor Day holiday celebrates the workforce of the United States and is always the first Monday of every September.

A Reminder of Students’ First Day of School and Bus Safety: Garrett County Public Schools will start the new school year on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, with a 3-hour early dismissal. All schools will be closed on Monday, September 2, for Labor Day.

USDA Rural Development Under Secretary Dr. Basil Gooden announced that USDA is now accepting applications for loans and grants aimed at helping rural small business owners and entrepreneurs access new and improved markets.

Maryland’s is celebrating 25 years of the Rural Legacy Program — preserving over 125,000 acres of valuable land, farms, and forests, with a $405 million public investment.

The Garrett County Health Department confirmed the county’s sixth rabies case for 2024, with a rabid raccoon reported on August 26 and confirmed positive on August 28. This marks the fourth rabid animal in the county within the past 30 days.
