The weather today will be showers and thunderstorms likely before 4pm then isolated and thunderstorms after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 75 and a low around 51. West wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Last night there were 21 tornado ‘reports’ across Maryland (16), WV (4) , and Virginia (1) and many water rescues as Harford County received 4 to 7 inches of rain.

Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake offer some of North America’s best and toughest cycling. The Garrett County Gran Fondo is coming up on June 22 and features five supported rides for all levels (for recreational cyclists to pros). Most routes are extremely challenging with steep climbs, some exceeding 20% gradients. Riders should gear their bikes for severe climbing. Check the linked article if you’re up for the challenge!

Come to Sang Run State Park today at 10:00 AM for the Bird Walk, where you’ll learn to identify birds by sight and sound. As you stroll through the park, listen to distinctive bird songs. Binoculars will be provided.

Today at New Germany State Park, there’s a Senior Rangers program for adults 55+, held every Thursday. Activities include mushroom gardening, fishing, plant identification, birding, and foraging. Registration is required.

Help the Swallow Falls Rangers search for aquatic invertebrates in the Marvelous Macroinvertebrates program! Discover which animals inhabit the tributaries and what they reveal about water health. Bring wading boots and clothes so you can get wet for this underwater adventure.

Spring has arrived, bringing wildflowers to Swallow Falls! Meet at the Swallow Falls Camp Store for the Wildflower Walk, a hike through the park where you’ll learn about native plants, how to identify them, and their role in supporting the ecosystem.

Participate in DCAB’s FREE Women’s + Beginner Group Trail/Mountain Bike Ride today! Meet at 5:15 PM, wheels down at 5:30 PM, and return by 7:15 PM. Ride a portion of the trails at Broadford Lake Park, meet other riders, reinforce biking skills, and take photos of bikes and wildflowers along the way.
