The Board of Public Works has approved over $4.3 million for 20 projects through the DNR’s Greenspace Equity Program, supporting green space improvements in underserved communities across 14 counties. Two more projects totaling $567,382 are pending approval.

The Maryland State Highway Administration has started a slope stabilization project on I-68 EB near Finzel, closing the right lane before MD 546. Work is expected to finish by late September, weather permitting.

Due to recent flooding, raw sewage has been reported in Braddock Run and Georges Creek in Allegany County, prompting a warning to avoid contact with those waters. Garrett County is not affected, as we are upstream from the impacted areas, but Allegany County does neighbor Garrett County.

Maryland Humanities will launch the Maryland tour of Spark! Places of Innovation on July 5 at the Garrett County Museum of Transportation. This Smithsonian exhibit highlights innovation in rural communities, with local programming led by the Garrett County Historical Society.

The Garrett County Fair is bringing high-energy entertainment to McHenry, Maryland, for its 2025 festival, featuring chart-topping country artists and exciting tribute performances.
