On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, AAUW-Garrett Branch Christine Campe-Price, Scholarship Committee Chair, accepted a check from the Civic Club of Oakland. It was presented by Co-President Jean Tumbarello at the Civic Club monthly luncheon. This year’s donation of $675 is an increase from that received last year from the Civic Club, which for more than a decade has sponsored the work AAUW does on behalf of women and girls in the Garrett County community.
Stated Campe-Price, “The funds the Civic Club works so hard for every year and donates to AAUW and multiple local organizations make such a difference in the lives of Garrett County residents. We greatly appreciate the increased funding this year.” Campe-Price continued, saying that the donation supports a total of 13 new scholarships this year, totaling over $10,000.
The AAUW-Garrett County Scholarship program aims to provide support to all kinds of Garrett County women, including high school seniors and homeschoolers just beginning their academic careers, graduating Garrett College students who are continuing their education at a four-year institution, non-traditional students returning to school after a break, and graduate students. This year, the new FarmHER program for women pursuing careers in agriculture provides funding towards college degrees, leadership, continuing education, and training programs. The FarmHER program was created and sponsored by local artist and farme, Annie Simcoe of ABPH Art.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since its founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. The Garrett Branch of AAUW has been working since its creation in 1946 to bring strong women together for activities related to women’s empowerment in our community.
