Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) is proud to announce that all four of its secondary schools have received banner recognition as a Unified Champion School through Special Olympics Maryland. The Maryland Recognition Program is an accolade designed to highlight and distinguish Unified Schools that go above and beyond the standard each school year. Northern Garrett Middle, Northern Garrett High, Southern Garrett Middle, and Southern Garrett High were evaluated on three components; Unified Sports and Activites, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole School Engagement. All schools met these high standards of creating an inclusive environment for students.
GCPS is thrilled to be the first county in the state to receive this recognition at all secondary schools. “We are honored to receive this recognition from Special Olympics Maryland,” said Dr. Chelsie Manges, Director of Special Education. “This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of our staff, students, and community to foster an inclusive and supportive culture in our schools. We are proud of our Unified Champion Schools and look forward to continuing our work to create a welcoming environment for all students.”
